Galatians 5:22-23- “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.”

Happy Sunday everyone! I hope your Saturday was relaxing and whatever you did brought you closer to Jesus. Amen? I know many of you are off to church this morning as hopefully this catches you before you go because I would love for you all to ponder a few things. Simply put we as believers in Christ need to STOP. Pump the brakes, through the car into park and just stop. Stop what you ask? Well let us examine our daily verse above…

People often ask, “how do I know that someone is truly following Christ?” Well the first answer is ultimately we don’t know Only that person and God do. However, as seen in Galatians there are a few clues that may hint at that answer; love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. All very good traits wouldn’t you say? The key to my message this morning is what is does NOT say. Follow me through a few points please…

1. It does not say, “Call others’ sins out for all to see and hear”. How many times do we do that? The creation of social media has made this way to easy to do and including myself I see way to many self appointed Christians spending time telling others how bad they are (Whether the facts are true or not is irrelevant).

2. It does not say, “Respond to hate with hate”. Actually the Word says quite the opposite; Jesus told us to Love our ENEMIES. Whoa! We often forget about that one don’t we? I can’t tell you how many times I have responded to an unbeliever or a young believer in Christ with hateful comments back because I allowed my emotions to get carried away and not have the traits that Galatians speaks of.

3. It DOES tell us to apply these things to our lives so others can see the Light of Jesus Christ in all we do. Think about this; what if every time we are tempted to write something nasty about oh lets say some one the other side of the political isle than us, we instead told them that we love them and wrote something kind? Would that change things? Maybe not right away but then you and I have been faithful to what God has called us to do and you never know what seeds you will plant by replacing that nasty talk with the Fruits of the Spirit.

My friends, this last year God has taught me more through Social Media than I think I learned in all my higher education. I have learned that I and my fellow believers have a long way to go before we have even scratched the surface of acting like Jesus has called us to. We act and respond like the world does and then are shocked why things are so bad. Just like when I was raising my boys it wasn’t their job to discipline each other, it was mine and my wife’s. The same applies to us and God. It is up to us to love and up to Him to judge and correct. Yes we should offer direction and advice, but done in a way that reflects those fruits of the Spirit. If we are being honest with ourselves, I think you will all reach the same conclusion I did….We just need to stop, regroup, and get back to the ways God has called us to live. Amen?

  1. This is simply wonderful, David, it was exactly what I needed to read. My personal struggle is about “stop judging” and “stop analyzing” and just “start loving” and living in Christ’s light and love.
Thank you for the light you bring into my life through your heavenly inspired articles! 😇❤️🙏
