1 John 4:18- “There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.”
Happy Saturday everyone! Let’s get right to it shall we? Let us define a couple of things first; Perfect Love and Fear. This is courtesy of GotQuestions.org…
The “fear” that perfect love casts out is the fear of God’s judgment. We know that Judgment Day is coming, but those who are in Christ know the love of God, which drives away fear of condemnation. The dismissal of the fear of judgment is one of the main functions of God’s love. The person without Christ is under judgment and has plenty to fear (John 3:18), but, once a person is in Christ, the fear of judgment is gone. He is reconciled to God, and “there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:1).
The reason that I am focusing on this today is that I truly feel this is the root cause, if you will, of all our issues today in our Christian life. I see so much judgment and just plain horrible teachings around and I truly believe it is out of fear. Fear that results from some (actually many) not understanding the Perfect Love that Jesus has given us as well as given us the ability to show others.
See what happens when we have a problem loving, we turn to other methods. For some it is drugs, sex outside of marriage, you name it we substitute it. For some that consider themselves Christians we even turn to playing Judge on how others live their life. Do you all understand that there is only one judge? Do you all understand Perfect Love always holds no record of wrongdoing? (Are you listening my Twitter Peeps?) HOLDS NO RECORD! Just as Jesus does for you.
For others this leads to depression and lack of self worth. This is the one that really breaks my heart because it hits so close to home. I have seen personally what happens when you forget not only Whose you are, but just how special you really are. You see, God had a relationship with us even before we were born. He loved us then, loves us now, and will love us for all eternity. Unfortunately sin crept into the world and a price had to be paid. That price was paid through Jesus Christ but we have to accept His gift. Not only accept for the eternal consequences but for the life we can live right here, right now.
Friends, do you know the Perfect Love to which I speak of this morning? I am now after being a Christian for almost 30 years just starting to understand it. Without knowing this Perfect Love you will never grow in your faith and you will always be fearful; and as all good Star Wars fans know, we understand the emotions that come from fear…..Do the research for yourself, its all there. Jesus is calling you; will you answer? And not just answer with some fancy prayers or speeches but a true commitment to Him and His Perfect Love?
