Do We Love?

Good morning all and Happy Weekend! I don’t know about all of you but with the holidays and my weird work week, I barely know what day it is. I am fairly sure though that it is Saturday and the weekend is upon us. I pray that all of you reading this had a fantastic Christmas with family and friends and most importantly grew closer to Jesus than ever before. Amen? Let’s get started…

So I have started a new routine. I have started getting up an hour earlier than normal because I really felt like I wasn’t giving myself that time with God in the morning that I needed. I would read the Bible app verse of the day and move on. Well, that just isn’t enough friends; especially in the days that we live. We need God’s Word more than ever before. So…this morning I was reading out of the book of Luke with the verses posted above and three things came glaring out at me after reading not just those two verses but the whole Chapter (which by the way is essential to understand context when reading what God has to say!)

1. Jesus was kind to the unthankful and evil; what does that say about us?

I see a lot of people, especially on social media that call themselves Christ followers not following Jesus’ lead here. (I am SO guilty of this as well). I mean its easy to be nice and kind to those that share our belief system and are nice to us but what about those that are vile and nasty? Those are exactly the people that Jesus was most kind to, you know why? It’s who needed Him the most…..

2. Jesus hoped for nothing in return; so should we have the same attitude!

Let’s be honest, we are all guilty of this too. How many times do we think about all we do for someone and never get anything in return? It’s humanity, I get it but just like everything else we need to strive to get better at this. When Jesus went through all He went through, He knew He would get nothing in return from Humanity; heck He even knew that most people would reject Him even after He gave up so much. From now on our giving should be done with a kind heart and one that never seeks glory for what they do for others.

3. These things will bring you closer to God!

“You will truly be acting as children of the Most High”. What greater aspirations could we as a follower of Christ have than to become what our Father in Heaven wants us to be. I mean that is why we gave our hearts to Jesus to begin with right? to be closer for all eternity with our Creator? By obeying God’s Word and Jesus’ example here, He is promising us that we will be closer to Him than ever! Amen?

Friends, I wrote on Twitter the other day that I think we Christians need to hit the reset button. We have allowed the Evil One to creep into our hearts in ways we didn’t think possible. He has allowed us to become self-righteous, arrogant, and judgmental. All of these things are not of God and despite how some may twist His Word are not things that God has called us to do. Seems like a long task huh? How about we start with this one thing; follow Jesus’ lead and be kind to the unthankful and evil. I have a feeling we won’t be disappointed in the results…

Have a great Saturday friends and if this message hit home in a real and personal way, please pass this onto others. Thanks!

Agape Love,

David
