Revelation 22:18-19– “For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book; and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.”
Good morning friends, Happy Hump Day! Today I am going to write about something near and dear to my heart, but first let me say this…..You are loved, you are chosen, and you are special. Anyone or anything that tells you otherwise is straight from Lucifer himself and should be discarded as such. Not sure who exactly that is for this morning but felt it needed to be said. Ok, moving on. 🙂
I know that there are two books of the Bible that almost always immediately make people turn the other way and run as far as they can; Genesis and Revelation. To even the most seasoned of biblical scholar, these books can be confusing and frustrating. Today, however, I am going to focus on just one thing that will be very clear and is becoming a cancer within the Christian Community and that is the passage above….you have been warned. What do I mean? Well its pretty simple actually; when John was stuck on this island by himself to write what had to be a mind boggling vision from God, it concluded with the above warning. I can simplify it for us by the following two points;
- If you add or put in things to the Scriptures that are not actually there, you will suffer the plagues that are discussed at length throughout.
- If you take away from the Scriptures, your part from the Book of Life will be taken away as well.
Still with me? Still confused? Ok, let me put it this way, stop changing the way the Scriptures are written to suit your personal agenda or their will be consequences that you will not be happy about. Do we not see this all the time? Here is my personal favorite: ““Do not cut your bodies for the dead, and do not mark your skin with tattoos. I am the LORD- Leviticus 19:28″ Its my favorite because people spill that one to me all the time when they see my tattoos. Funny thing I always come back with is; “Did you happen to read the verse right before it which states “Do not trim off the hair on your temples or trim your beards” ? So oops, you shaved this morning so you are just as much in violation as I am. What about the one a few verses up? “Do not nurse hatred in your heart for any of your relatives. Confront people directly so you will not be held guilty for their sin” I bet you are harboring some anger towards a family member as well, oops your guilty of that too. WRONG.
The bible is all about context and the verse about tattoos was given because at the time pagans roamed the land which were carving themselves up to worship the dead. God felt this was bad so He made a blanket rule for a very specific purpose; that goes for the shaving part as well….My point by giving you this example is that people chop up the Scriptures to fit their agenda instead of understanding and living what the words say and mean. Sometimes this is done just out of lack of study but more times than not there is a more sinister purpose at work. Today I give you the warning for such action, not by me but by our Creator. No one expects perfection when it comes to God’s Word. It is a living, breathing document which takes our whole lives to comprehend, but through this process we must not lead others astray by purposely adding or subtracting things to fit our purposes. Amen?
Let me know what you think by adding comments in the comments section and thank you all for reading my blogs. You are helping a middle aged guy fulfill his dream of writing and I can’t express that gratitude I have for your time and support. Have a great Wednesday everyone!
