Something WAY Different

Ok so almost all my blog posts are Spiritual in nature and I have no disillusions that I will write anything else on a permanent basis but I thought I would try something WAY different tonight. A little snapshot into my life right now…

As some of you know, my wife and I moved in with her parents to help them out financially so that they wouldn’t lose their home. I mean, its the Jesus thing to do right? So with that said, please understand that I was raised in a extremely strict home when it comes to table manners. No elbows, chew with your mouth shut, you know the drill. There were two things though that would have gotten me slaughtered quite literally at the table which for some reason my in laws do and it makes me die a little each time.

1. Burping and farting at the table.

2 (And this is the biggie); I literally saw my Grandfather almost beat someone up in an restaurant once for this…BLOWING YOUR NOSE. I mean who doesn’t want to see some good ole snot with their food.

I told you this would be different; please help! How do I combat this??

David

Common Decency

Hello again friends. Would you believe we lost power AGAIN? Same exact area in our town except this time it was at 2:40 AM. Thankfully it came back on at 9:30 or so before my day got totally ruined. Again, I’m spoiled I get it. I sure don’t take it for granted anymore though I cam promise you that!

Anyway, A quick post today because of the late start but something I just felt I needed to put out there. Where is our common decency? I mean, just the basic “thank you”, “your welcome”, etc, etc. I swear on all that is holy if I say thank you to someone and get a “yep” one more time someone is getting slapped. Just kidding of course but you get my point. Have we gotten so far away from God that we can’t even have the smallest amounts of decency towards each other?

Can we not be followers of every single catch phrase that comes out and just be ourselves? Honestly I think that we are seeing the results of the first real generation that has given their lives completely to the world and away from our Creator. Just look around friends, I can’t be the only one that sees this!

Anyone else experience this? Maybe something different? Please leave a comment below, I would love to hear your experiences. Have a great day everyone!

In His Service,

David

Good Morning!

Good morning everyone and welcome to Saturday! Sorry that I haven’t posted anything in a couple of days but it has been a bit of a crappy stretch for me health wise and just didn’t have it in me to write anything. I’m about 85% or so; still have the lingering cough and of course the hip issue (which I will get to in a minute) but overall feel like I’m at least on the right path again. Hope everyone is doing well out there and would love to hear from you guys. You can communicate to me through Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and of course right here as well.

So, apparently I am officially mortal…..For those that don’t know a lot of my backstory, one of the more finer moments in my life happened when I thought it would be a great idea to not tackle other people but instead up the ante and try and tackle a car. Didn’t work out real well for either of us but I think the car probably got the worst of it lol. Seriously though I was getting off the city bus at the ripe old age of 14 and didn’t look both ways, darted out and BAM! Got flipped up in the air, somehow landed enough on my feet that I was able to walk about 20 yards before collapsing over a railing….I don’t remember much after that except for waking up in the hospital about 12 hours later not having any idea what happened. I was truly blessed that day because one half second either way in time and I would not be here writing this blog. God was in control even then….

I tell you this backdrop story of mine because I had thought that all my wounds had healed; not so much. See many people have told me I waddle rather than walk because one leg is shorter than the other. Really though its not my leg but my hip and back area got knocked pretty good and I never really got it taken care of; so now at the ripe old age of 46 its back and back with a vengeance…

Now, keep in mind my pain tolerance is pretty low, even for a guy, but this pain I knew was different so I went to doc about it. He did some X-rays and I got the call yesterday that I have some “very significant” arthritis in said hip and need to go to an Orthopedic specialist. I do understand this is not life threatening or anything like that, but it did give me my very first sense that “hey, goofball, you really won’t live forever”. It also reminded me of a very dark time in my life where by all rights I should have died that day. (Satan has been trying to take me out ever since). It reminds me that I’m over half way done with this crazy thing called life and my physical body will never be the same. Again, there are those in my life that are dealing with so much worse, but for me, this is a little bit of a sobering reminder of my mortality. Make sense?

I’m very aware that me losing weight couldn’t hurt the situation, however, I also know I would be dealing with this heavy or not. Back in the 80’s cars were still made with steel and so were not as forgiving as they may be today. This pain in my hip is that constant reminder; maybe the new doc will be able to help, maybe not, but as for me the first reminder that my days are not as many as they used to be just creeped up and said hello. Cute thing though that I will continue to remember as well that even though my earthly days are getting smaller, my eternal days are just around the corner. Maybe someone out there is also dealing with a similar experience? I would love to hear from you about it! Leave a comment in the comments section or however you see fit. In the meantime remember also that God is still in control and while the earth will reclaim your body, God has your eternal soul which if given to Him will live for all eternity where pain does not exist…..

Peace and love my friends, Happy Saturday!!

A Couple of Observations

Good afternoon all,

I know I just posted something a few hours ago but something new I am trying is taking notes when I am out of things I observe and then writing about them later. I did that today as my wife and I went out to eat brunch. The following are a couple of observations I made; take them for what you will….
1.  As we were eating, these 2 people were ushered to their seats; they had to be from Chicago as their arrogance actually beat them to the table. (No offense to my friends from Chicago but here in Michigan we notice a “I’m better than you” attitude from them all the time). Not only was their initial table not good enough but the waiter that brought them their water was not greeted with a thank you, go poop yourself, no nod of the head, not even a smile, just continued to look at their menus as if this person (the waiter) didn’t even exist. This may seem like a small thing but its these little lapses in courtesy that build frustration and resentment with folks. You would be surprised what a simple, thank you can do for someone…..

2. On the other side, as we were close to being done with our meal, a busboy was cleaning off a table near us and was singing with this angelic voice that brought instant bliss to my heart. He was singing “My Eyes Are on the Sparrow” or something to that effect. When he had finished with that table, he came over to ours and asked me, “Excuse me sir, may I take your empty plate for you?” It was like I had just been asked by Jesus Himself if He could do something for me. I said, “yes please”. Then I asked, “was that you singing at the other table?” He nodded that it was with a small but humble smile and all I could say was, “awesome!” I truly think I witnessed a true servant of Christ in that encounter. Whether He was an angel sent by God for that particular moment, I’m not sure of, but what I am sure of is this is what Jesus would expect of His people. It gave me a glimmer of hope in what has been a sad few months. Thank you God for that brief encounter that You are in fact still around….
Just a couple of observations from yours truly, enjoy the rest of your day,

David
