How We Treat People

HELLO EVERYONE AND WELCOME to another weekend! I hope that everyone made it through the work week in one piece and can enjoy some time of rest the next couple of days. Everyone ready for my message today? Let me know, I’ll wait…..

Ok, that’s enough time. So as usual, every week God seems to want to teach me something different. Which is fine but some weeks I’m like, “I haven’t even come close to mastering the other teaching yet”. But God is God and knows more than me so this week He changed it up again; focusing on how I treat people…

First off, you have to ask yourself, how do you view other people? Actually, I guess it starts off with, how do you view yourself? This is a vital first step because if you view yourself in a poor light, then typically you will view most others the same way. So, how do you view yourself? One that struggles with weight? One that struggles with addiction? One that struggles with your career?

Or do you view yourself as God sees you, which if you have given your life to Christ, is as a model of perfection! He no longer sees the sinful creature you used to be but instead a Child of Glory that He created and with whom He is pleased. So if God sees you that way, do you? Why not? I mean, after all, He did create you and lead you to salvation; do you think He really devalues your worth because you have gained some weight or struggle with a certain sin? Of course not! So again, why don’t you?

Now, once we come to terms with ourselves, that is where it really gets tough because God has called us to treat others, especially our enemies, better than we treat ourselves! So the only possible way to do that is to see others as God sees them. Not as Muslims or Democrats or Republicans or what ever they are, but as children of the Most High filled with potential to also be seen as perfect! Is this making any sense??

I see so much hatred against other people (yes I’m talking to you Christ-Follower as well). Yet we ourselves don’t follow the most basic of Scriptures…

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”- 1 Peter 2:9

If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them.  And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that.  And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full.  But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.  Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.– Luke 6:27-36

A few years ago in college I read a book that changed my perception on male/female relationships forever. It was called The Five Love Languages and in that book it talks about how as men we need to look at our wives with “pink” sunglasses and wives need to look at their husbands with “blue” sunglasses because of how different men and women look at the world. Friends, it is time we put on our “God sunglasses”. To treat others the way God has called us to is impossible without first understanding how God sees them.

In this world of hate and insulting, can we listen to the teachings of our Savior and spread some hope? Can we do that CHURCH? Stop the insults of your supposed enemy and spread God’s love; whether you think they deserve it or not! Peace be with you all…

Blessings and Love,

David

Show Mercy

1 Timothy 1:16- “But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his immense patience as an example for those who would believe in him and receive eternal life.”

MERCY is something that God is so desperately trying to teach me….Yesterday was an awful day and now looking back I don’t think I was fighting as much against others as I was myself. At first glance I thought I was under a huge spiritual attack (which to some extent I still do believe that) but this morning I also feel like an opportunity presented itself.

Are there those around me that seemingly do everything in their power to bring me down and make me feel awful? Yep, but what does Jesus tell us to do about those people? He gave us the ultimate example of course! As evil and corrupt as I am, He sought me out and gave me the gift of eternal life. He still to this day puts up with all my faults and all my shortcomings and does so in such a loving way. Now come back to yesterday; how did I react? Quite the opposite; I lashed back out, closed myself off, and actually for a few minutes thought I was having a heart attack from all the stress. To say I failed that lesson would be an understatement.

Actually, reflecting more, it could have been a combination of events. Satan posed the same test to Job and God agreed. I, unlike Job though, did not keep praising God, I just fell into the same trap as always. I let my emotions of the world guide me and that never works out well…

So friends, as Christ followers, we are always under the refining process. God is weeding out the nasty stuff in our lives and it is usually a painful process. I truly wish sometimes we had a heads up that the test was going to begin you know? I guess then that would defeat the purpose of the test. In any case, let us try and remember when those storms come in, of the great mercy God shows us so we can in turn show it to them. I’m praying for all of you and would ask the same in return.

Have a great Sunday everyone,

David
