Always Learning

One thing about being a Pastor, being in the ministry, heck just being a human being is that we are always learning; at least that is what we should be doing. We should never reach a point in our lives where we know without a shadow of a doubt that we know everything and can’t be taught. This happened to me yesterday and even though I knew better, I had to learn the hard way a very simple fact; some people don’t want to learn…

If I am wrong I say it; always been a trait of mine that I hold dear and to be honest expect from others as well. It’s right up there with honesty, kind of a non-negotiable. Over the last few days there has been quite the debate that I stirred up on whether Baptism is required for salvation. I will go to my grave saying it is not because the Bible just gives too many examples where it is Grace and Grace alone (with your acceptance of that Grace) that saves you. Baptism is an act that Jesus is very clear about in which acts can’t save you. Look at the person on the Cross with Jesus; “Today you will be with me in Paradise”. Was that person Baptized? No of course not. So if you are saying Baptism is required for salvation then you are saying that Jesus was lying on the Cross when He made that statement. (There are plenty more examples Jesus gave us through His Word but that is the most obvious one). ANWAYS….

What I learned yesterday is that no one is ever teachable when you play this back and forth game with them; especially over the internet. I would much rather have that type of conversation over coffee face to face, however, in this world today that is difficult so here we are….I should have taken a page from my mentor and just gave my position and left it there. Many people agree with my stance on this; why engage others that disagree? It just puts on a horrible witness and for that I am truly sorry. I guess for me when it comes to issues of salvation it drives me insane to see folks deceived, but again just like spreading the Good News itself, I am not responsible for what people do with the information I give them, only that I in fact give it to them. The Holy Spirit does the rest.

So, my advice to all of you? Let Love be your guide! On most things concerning God and His Word odds are we have it all jacked up anyways. I mean look at all the different versions and today the lack of research people do into the original languages in which God’s Word was written. Other than the basics, I bet when we get to Heaven we will see how wrong we were about a great many things. So if you are passionate about something, be passionate and put it out there. Just stop engaging those that only want to argue and not learn. I know for me that is the approach I will be taking from now on.

Have a great Sunday everyone!

Break The Chains

Good Sunday morning everyone. I would start off this morning for asking for your prayers. As many of you know I had a total Hip Replacement surgery preformed almost a full year ago. The surgery was a definite success in terms of fixing my badly damaged hip. However, for reasons which are still not totally clear, my healing has been slow in terms of the muscles and tendons that were cut and maneuvered to perform the surgery. Some days are ok, then I had a day like yesterday where the pain is so bad I just want to give up. So, please keep me in your prayers that a true healing would begin and I can have that portion of my life back. Thank you!

Breaking those chains….Is this not the toughest part of our walk with Jesus? Those chains represent so many different things for everyone; some have issues with drugs, depression, porn, gluttony, materialistic things, you name it the chains are there. Sometimes I think some false preaching makes it worse because there is this notion that the minute you come to Christ, all is done and you will never suffer from any of this again. Anyone ever heard that before? I know I did and it really frustrated me as to why I wasn’t getting better; or at least why it didn’t all go away.

What frustrates me even more is when I hear people say, “Your just not reading your Bible enough” or “Your faith just isn’t strong enough”. While those statements might be true, when someone is suffering the last thing they want to hear is how its all their fault. Amen? So, with that said, how do we truly break free of those chains. Despite the teachings of some misinformed folks, it really comes down to these two verses:

1. John 8:36- “36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed”

If you have come to Christ as Savior, while your ailments may not be instantly removed, you know have the ABILITY to break free from those chains. Before Christ you were a slave to sin and had no other choice. With Jesus in your corner, you can now accomplish things that previously were impossible. With that said it will still take some work on your part; which leads me to number 2.

2. Romans 12:2- “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will”

Embedded in this verse is a hidden mystery that most miss; we say it all the time but yet until we really examine it, one can miss it and therefore change the way we view it. “Be transformed by the renewING of your mind. RENEWING! By God using that word in that way, it tells us that it is an ONGOING process, not just done once! We must always be in the process of renewing our minds and thoughts. I can tell you from personal experience that the minute you let up, Satan is there ready to insert his evil and frustrate you to no end.

Friends, we can break those chains and break them forever. First we must be set free with a choice that makes Jesus Christ our Savior and Redeemer. Then we must follow His directions on how to make your life truly changed. Amen? God never said that once we come to Him we just sit back and let God control us like puppets. His Spirit will be upon us and He is there for us, but God is still a gentleman and will only act when you invite Him to do so. This requires work on our part folks. We have so many things in our lives that we make a priority and make time for; if you are suffering from any of those things I listed before, is this not something that should be at the top of your priority list?

Break Those Chains my friends and not only break them but through Christ make the chain go away and never come back! Have a great Sunday and for those that know me well, FINS UP!!

Do Not Fear

Good morning everyone and welcome to Monday! Normally I would not be writing a longer post on a Monday because I would be at work, but God blessed me with a job where I can be off today and enjoy one more day of family and relaxation. I pray most of you can do the same!

Fear…some say that this phrase of “Do Not Fear” occurs 365 times in the Bible. While I have my doubts about that number simply because of the human error involved with translations, the point is not lost. WE SHOULD NOT FEAR!!! Now if you don’t know God and His Son Jesus Christ then you really should fear; only because someday this evil and sin will be dealt with and you don’t want to stand accused without the lawyer of all lawyers Amen? As a Christ-follower though, God has given you a Spirit which knows no fear. The question today is are you willing to give yourself fully to Him and let Him wipe that fear away from you?

Fear causes so many problems; it starts with small things and before you know it you are scared of even waking up in the morning. Make no mistake on who that is from; it is from your Enemy Lucifer who hates you and will do everything in his limited power to keep you down. Using fear as a weapon is one of his biggest weapons against us. Problem for him though is God has given us the ability to shed that fear away like an old t-shirt! Are you willing to shed that fear and start doing the great things for God you were called to do?

My friends, despite the way the media (and some well intentioned Christians) would tell you, the world is really full of hope. There are many people like you and me with stories of redemption and tales of breaking free of those chains of fear through Jesus. Why not be one more of those stories this morning? Why not tell the Enemy he has no place in your life and watch him have to flee? Why not tell Jesus that He has all of your heart and let Him pull you up from the pits of despair?

As always, its your choice, no one can make it for you. God is a gentleman and will only come into your life if you ask Him. Will you ask Him today?

Love and Hugs,

David
